A Very Merry Unbirthday

Wow, my baby is 6 months old. Half a year. Where did the time go? She is becoming less of a baby and more of an actual little person that I take care of. Her personality is really shine, or as Brett calls it, she is becoming "conscious."
  • She sits up by herself.
  • She can roll over front to back and back to front, although she always manages to pin her arm underneath her and can't quite figure out how to fix that yet.
  • She passes objects hand to hand and will use both hands to grab at something (always with the intention of getting it into her mouth

  • She opens her mouth if Brett & I are holding her while we eat, which is so funny, because like I am actually going to share my food....
  • She is officially eating solids and she inhales food like she is preparing for hibernation
  • She goes down really well for naps and bedtime, as long as she has her little lamb to cuddle up with

Laying out by the pool

Not so much a swimfan. I was holding her to cover my nursing cleavage. TMI!

  • She babbles and screams and giggles like crazy, and just started saying "da-da" (well, "tha-tha", but we'll take it)
  • She is ticklish

  • She has discovered her feet, and loves the taste of them, shoes too if she can't get her feet.
  • She likes to spit her binky out like a rocket.
  • She weighs 13.5 lbs and is 26.5 inches tall!

Hate this picture of me, but she looks darling!
Where did our little girl go?

An anniversary and a birthday (sort of)

Last weekend was one of the first nice spring weekends we have had this year. It also was General Conference, the 1-year anniversary of Opa's death, and the weekend before Easter. All of these things have put me into a state of self reflection. A year ago, I had just found out I was pregnant, we had just bought a house, and we were coming home from a family vacation when we found out that Opa had passed away.
Me as a baby with Oma & Opa
It's amazing what can happen in a year! I wonder what will be going on this time next year?

And now I have a 5 month old!

St. Patty's Day

Practicing sitting
Trying rice cereal for the first time. She couldn't get enough of it!
Going shooting for the first time.

It seems so crazy to me that a year ago we didn't even know we were having a girl. We didn't have a name, or any idea what she would look like. But now she is here and I feel that of course this is what she should look like. Of course her name should be Adelyn. Of course her little personality just fits her perfectly.
She is now a whopping 13 1/2 pounds (according to our bathroom scale, which may not be very accurate) and 26" or 27" long. She was kind of kicky when I was trying to measure.
She is getting pretty good at sitting up if we balance her, but she topples over pretty easily. She had her first official solid food, and loved it. I can tell she is going to be excited when we start solids officially at the end of this month.
Adelyn's personality is really starting to shine. She has recently become ticklish, which is adorable. I can tell when she is bored, or hungry, or tired...she seems to cycle through those three emotions pretty often. She loves going outside on walks, eating her hands (or anything she can get her hands ON), taking baths, and reading books. She always gets instantly quiet when we pull a book out and tries to turn the pages, which is cute. Hopefully we will have a little reader!
We are taking our first big vacation next month. We are going to Hawaii and it should be quite an experience with a baby. Any tips on flying with an infant would be much appreciated :)
She is growing up too fast!
P.S. Blogger is acting up and I'm having trouble posting the pictures, so sorry it looks a little weird.

4 Month Stats

I cannot believe that Adelyn is 4 months old already. A lady in my ward brought her newborn to church last Sunday and he was soooo tiny! My baby still seems so small to me until I see another baby and realize just how much she has grown. We had her 4 month appointment today. She is now 12 lbs 12 oz (30%)  and 24 1/2" (60%) tall! Dr. Bean says she is really social. She really likes to smile and stare at people. Adelyn is very curious and likes to explore things with her mouth especially. She tries sometimes to fit both her fists in there at once. And she never gives up either. One day I'm convinced she will succeed.
She likes to giggle and coo a lot. In fact, I think she just likes to listen to herself. In the mornings she wakes up and doesn't cry, but just kind of "yells" until I come and get her. She likes to be read to and sung to, but only 1-2 books or songs at a time. Otherwise her attention wanders. She is enjoying tummy time more and will roll over, usually to the right side. She rolled over to her left once, but I missed it! And she always looks surprised to have ended up on her back. She seems really close to rolling over from her back to her belly, she can get up on her side but just can't seem to get that extra push over yet.
Adelyn loves playing in her bouncy chair. She likes to really make it bounce and go crazy. She likes rattles, and looking at herself in the mirror. She has started to grab things in front of her and put them in her mouth (where else?)
She also recently learned how to blow raspberries and it is so funny to watch her try to coordinate her little tongue and blowing out at the same time.
She has been sleeping through the night since she was about 4 weeks old, but is not very cooperative at taking naps. Ady is more of a "catnapper" taking little 20 minute snoozes every so often. But she is really happy and playful when she is awake, so I'm not pushing the nap thing yet. Maybe when she is 6 months old.
We love our little girl and can't imagine life without her!

Piano Fingers

Okay, I saw this piano solo on Youtube and saw that the sheet music is for sale on his website. The sample page that they show you actually looks playable so I bought it, I figured I could learn it slowly, and work up to the tempo on the video. Let's just say I severely overestimated my piano playing ability. But I also blame the sample sheet of the piano music because starting at page 2 it is completely out of my repertoire. But he is amazing, so enjoy the video.

Happy Hallmark Holiday!

My friend posted "Happy Hallmark Holiday" on her facebook today and it made me laugh. It is so true that Valentine's Day  is just another consumer holiday, of course so is pretty much any other holiday nowadays. But I digress. However you feel about pink and red and hearts and flowers, you've got to admit, it's cute on little girls.
